Word has reached us that Jack Hume, a founder member and past president of the Houston/Grampian Association, died in Houston on Friday, 2 February. He celebrated his 89th birthday last month. Jack retained many friends in the Grampian-Houston Association who will remember him with warmth and  affection.

He belonged to Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, and emigrated to Houston with his first wife Phemie in the early 1950s.He was proud of his Scottish heritage and was an expert on the works of Robert Burns, serving twice as Chieftain of Houston Heather & Thistle Society in the 1970s. In 2003 he spearheaded a campaign to present the City of Houston with a bust of Scotland's Bard. Today that statue stands proudly in Hermann Park.

Jack and Phemie were in the 40-strong delegation that flew to Aberdeen for the signing of the official twinning  agreement between Grampian Regkion and Houston in May, 1979.
